Former Mercedes boss slams Red Bull rivals

Former vice president of Mercedes motorsport Norbert Haug has called Red Bull’s Formula 1 rivals “inferior,” voicing his displeasure with the lack of competition from the other teams.

It would be an understatement to say that Red Bull has dominated the 2023 Formula One season.

Numerous records have been broken this season by Max Verstappen and the RB19. The Dutchman won his third straight title, leading Red Bull to their sixth constructors’ championship and their first-ever one-two finish in the drivers’ standings.

Haug has been impressed by this incredible season, but he is also very disappointed with teams like Ferrari and Mercedes.

“Such a clear superiority or, conversely, inferiority, depending on the perspective from which one views the competitive situation, has never existed in the history of Formula 1 since 1950,” Haug said to Presse-Agentur.

The 70-year-old complimented Verstappen and emphasized that this could not, in the long run, serve as the foundation for an exciting World Championship.

“As much as this speaks to the overwhelming strength of Verstappen and Red Bull Racing,” Haug stated.

“It clearly describes that the competition in 2023 was by no means good enough.”

Despite the assurances given to fans by commentators and teams that Red Bull’s lead is narrowing, Christian Horner’s team has been able to begin development on the 2024 car well ahead of their competitors due to the Austrian team’s dominance.
