Iconic Hamilton memorabilia sells for STAGGERING price at auction

Lewis Hamilton’s race suit from his first Formula One victory has gone up for auction. It sold for $241,300.

In the championship’s sixth round in 2007, Hamilton won his first race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Canada. This would be the first of his 103 Grand Prix victories, which is more than any other driver in Formula One history.

A collector has now acquired a piece of memorabilia from that momentous day, spending nearly a quarter of a million dollars to claim it as their own.

The seven-time world champion joined McLaren in 2007 and went on to have one of the best rookie seasons in Formula One history. Having placed third in every previous race, it took him just six races to win his first race.

After finishing tied for the lead with teammate Fernando Alonso, he lost the championship to Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen by a single point that year.However, he would win his first championship the following year.

One of the most treasured pieces of modern F1 history is the suit Hamilton wore to claim his first victory.

It was put up for auction by RM Sotheby’s, the same company that brought in an incredible $15.1 million at auction for Hamilton’s first Mercedes vehicle back in 2013. To ensure authenticity, Sports Investors Authentication took a picture of it.

The market has shown that the Brit’s memorabilia is extremely popular, with bidders willing to pay enormous sums of money to acquire it. Examples of such memorabilia include a trading card that sold for nearly a million dollars and his W04, which is currently the second most expensive car ever sold, behind Juan Manuel Fangio’s W196R.
