Scottie Scheffler reveals what he told his newborn son before leaving for Valhalla

At long last, Scottie and Meredith Scheffler are proud parents. On Monday—after weeks of waiting—Scheffler announced the birth of his son Bennett on Instagram. Bennett arrived on May 8, eight days before the start of the year’s second major, leaving Scheffler with conflicted emotions as he departed for Valhalla this week.

With a Players Championship and green jacket already under his belt in 2024, however, Scheffler couldn’t ignore the call of duty. The World No. 1 has a chance to make history this week, and will answer the bell, if somewhat reluctantly. On Monday evening, Scheffler revealed what he told his son before leaving for Louisville, and we’re sure every new parent on the planet can relate.

Could this be a chink in the Scheffler armor for the field to exploit? Might we see a distracted Scottie this week? Don’t bet on it. Scheffler is clearly emotional about leaving his “little man,” but he’s also an uber competitor—perhaps not the showiest or fieriest, but you don’t get to where he is without an all-consuming drive to beat the stuffing out of the competition.

In other words, fade Scottie at your own peril. Sure, he might be under slept and homesick, but never doubt the dedication of a new dad.
