Rory McIlroy has expressed his dismay and concern for the future of the PGA Tour

As negotiations with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf continue. The sudden resignation of Jimmy Dunne, a key figure in the talks, has dealt a significant blow to the chances of a peace deal in the ongoing golfing civil war.

McIlroy lamented the loss of Dunne, who had been instrumental in brokering the Framework Agreement between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). Dunne’s departure has left a significant void in the negotiations, which have stalled in recent months.

The Northern Irish golfer expressed his disappointment and frustration at the situation, stating that the PGA Tour is in a worse place without Dunne’s involvement. McIlroy had previously been hopeful of a resolution, but his confidence has been shaken by Dunne’s resignation.

In contrast, PGA of America chief executive Seth Waugh remains optimistic about the possibility of a deal. Despite acknowledging the complexity of the situation, Waugh believes that a resolution is essential for the good of the game.

Waugh emphasized that the current business model of LIV Golf is unsustainable and has put pressure on the PGA Tour and other golfing organizations. He warned that the game is being diluted by the presence of two rival tours, which is not healthy for the sport.

The PGA of America chief executive urged for a swift resolution, hoping that a deal can be reached before further damage is done to the game. With negotiations ongoing, the future of the PGA Tour and the wider golfing world remains uncertain.
