England’s Richard Bland has revealed that he wouldn’t have asked LIV Golf for a tournament release to play in the Senior Open at Carnoustie, even if he was eligible. Bland believes that making such a request would have opened a can of worms with the breakaway tour.
Bland’s Career on the Upswing
Richard Bland’s career is experiencing a remarkable resurgence, with back-to-back major wins at the Senior PGA Championship and Senior U.S. Open earlier this year. The 51-year-old is also well-positioned to retain his spot in the LIV Golf League.
Senior Open Participation Denied
Under normal circumstances, Bland would have participated in the Senior Open at Carnoustie, attempting to complete the “Bland Slam.” However, the governing body upheld their policy of not allowing DP World Tour members who have played on LIV and have outstanding fines to compete in tournaments until the fines are paid.
Bland’s Stance on Fines
Bland has previously stated that LIV didn’t pay his fines, and he didn’t want them to, as he had no intention of returning to the DP World Tour. He saw no point in paying the fines, given his commitment to LIV Golf.
Similar Predicament for Lee Westwood
Lee Westwood faced a similar situation, and both Westwood and Bland have resigned their memberships from the Old World circuit. Despite this, they urged the R&A to stand up to the DP World Tour and allow them to participate in the Senior Open.
Tournament Conflict
This year’s Senior Open, won by K.J. Choi, clashed with LIV’s event at the JCB Golf & Country Club in Staffordshire, creating a scheduling conflict for players like Bland and Westwood.
This shows his commitment and loyalty to LIV golf. He is all in. I really like how he is playing it safe.
I guess he’s just paranoid about this situation and he needs a break off all these
The sports industry is experiencing a major issue with their sportsmen because a lot is going on there
He’s committed to the golf club society so I think that should be taken and considered to be rather becessary
