MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – Italian tennis sensation Jannik Sinner has been left red-faced after his most embarrassing moment on the court was revealed.
According to sources close to the player, Sinner was mortified when he tripped over his own feet during a match against Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Australian Open.
The incident, which was caught on camera, shows Sinner attempting to return a serve when he suddenly loses his footing and face-plants onto the court.
“Jannik was absolutely devastated,” said a source. “He’s always been a bit of a perfectionist, and to have something like that happen in front of a packed stadium was just humiliating for him.”
Despite his embarrassment, Sinner was able to laugh off the incident and even joked about it on social media.
“I guess I just wanted to get a closer look at the court,” Sinner tweeted, along with a laughing emoji.
The incident has since become a viral sensation, with many of Sinner’s fans and fellow players taking to social media to poke fun at him.
“Hey @janniksin, maybe you should stick to tennis and leave the gymnastics to the pros 😂,” tweeted Tsitsipas.
Despite the teasing, Sinner has taken the incident in stride and is already looking forward to his next match.
“It’s just one of those things that happens,” Sinner said in a statement. “I’m just glad I was able to get up and finish the match without any serious injuries.”
