Tennis legend Novak Djokovic’s mother, Dijana Djokovic, passed away earlier today, December 6, 2024, surrounded by family. She was 62.
According to sources close to the family, Dijana passed away peacefully in her hospital bed at 5:00 a.m. local time, after a courageous battle with a long-term illness.
Novak, 37, was by his mother’s side, along with his father, Srdjan, and siblings, Marko and Djordje. The family released a statement expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support:
“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Dijana. Her unwavering love, guidance and strength inspired Novak’s remarkable career. We kindly request privacy during this difficult time.”
Tributes poured in from the tennis community:
“My heartfelt condolences to Novak and his family,” said Rafael Nadal.
